Occupation: Sports Writer
Entry to Japan: Feb. 7, 1987
Footballing hero: Billy Bonds (West Ham)
Supports: West Ham Utd
How became BFC member: First played Feb. 1987 after being introduced by Don. It snowed and I froze to death as I only had a T-shirt to wear as I waited most of the game to come on as a sub at Yokota Air Base.
Most memorable BFC/Vags moments:
- Hitting the bar from 30 yards against U.S. Navy at Yokosuka — as close as I’ve come to fulfilling my ambition of scoring with a piledriver from outside the box.
- Watching Shimizu S-Pulse’s goalkeeping coach Fuka let Al score against him — the most memorable act of charity I’ve ever seen on a soccer pitch.
- Watching Al get sucked in and consumed by his Korean gal — probably the last time he’ll ever score.
Worst BFC/Vags moments: Don Whyte getting the rebound after glorious 30-yard piledriver against U.S. Navy; playing golf with Sid.
