The BFC Masters squad managed to get in a fair bit of warm up, stretching and practice and it showed in the first match against old rivals FJ Masters. After witnessing the oppositions’ first match, the tactics for the defense were going to be keep an eye on former BFC stalwart, Sid, but mostly for the team as whole to keep the ball, be patient and play some football. After a few minutes of easing into the game, BFC started to do as planned. The first half of the game was pretty uneventful; FJ were not offering too much of a threat. BFC started to get some moves going. After the first rotation of players, BFC were knocking on the door. Pete managed to pick out a very good run from Brian, who nudged the ball to the keeper’s left for the first goal. BFC continued to press, and Takuma was very unlucky not to score from distance as the oppo keeper did a Higuita dribble and lost the ball in no man’s land. The FJ defender did well to get back and block Takuma’s excellent effort. Takuma was not to be denied when a few minutes later, a wayward pass went straight to him, and he dispatched from distance to increase the margin to 2. The second half was more of the same. FJ reduced to long balls that Gen and Andrew mopped up relatively easily. Cue another set of rotations and getting close to the final whistle, after some good work all over the field, Pete nicely slotted into the bottom corner from distance to seal the win. It was nice to finally get a clean sheet in the masters as well, but most importantly three points. The only mar on the performance was a harsh yellow card for a very good slide tackle from Cash.
