Kilimanjaro FC entered this game in high spirits, top of the table and in fantastic form with three wins from three. BFC meanwhile, had slumped 6-2 to bottom of the table Albion Old Boys only two games previously. During their pre-match warm-up, Kilimanjaro palpably buzzed with enthusiasm and confidence, joining together for a raucous pre-match roar of self-belief. Anyone with a rational mind would surely predict victory for these confident on-form table-toppers. As pointed out in the club email last week however, a growing sense of collective strength is growing within the BFC team and last week’s superb 3-0 victory against King George ‘felt like the beginning’ for BFC. How right it was.
BFC produced a scintillating display of clinical football and were deservedly rewarded with an emphatic 7-1 victory, dominating the game from the kick off against very capable and technically gifted opposition. Marco Knopper had another outstanding game in the middle, scoring four expertly taken goals, the best of which was a brilliant glancing header from a well-placed cross by Shunsaku, very reminiscent of Steven Gerrards header in the Champions League Final against Milan. Casper and Rik both smartly dispatched after being put through on goal, with Rik’s strike coming straight from a kick off after Kilimanjaro had just scored their consolation goal. Once again, Marco provided the creative inspiration with a superb assist. This immediate and clinical response seemed to encapsulate the winning team’s dominant performance. Finally, Shunsaku added the seventh with a penalty that he had won himself after cutting inside. In truth, it could and perhaps should have been eight, with Casper’s strike from distance seeming to have crossed the line. At the end of the game, long-time TML referee Aaron Akosh Balogh probably summed things up best, proclaiming, ‘That was the best game I’ve ever seem from BFC.’ Even the ref was impressed!
