The conditions were perfect we had a strong line-up and we were playing on grass like this was a proper game of football! The omens were good.
We opened the game pretty much as it continued throughout with confident, measured passing and good quality build-up play. Even the loss of Chairman Pabs to injury after 5 minutes didn’t disrupt things too much with Sauce stepping in off the bench.
The pressure forced a couple of corners, the second of which perfectly met the head of Rowan who bopped it into the right side of the net.
We were in control and the JETS were starting to argue.
A shift in mentality happened that briefly effected this flow of the game.
A bad challenge from the JETS and an offside decision led to two bookings from BFC for dissent. It was an unnecessary display of frustration that went on far too long and brought weakness into the unit of the team. It was during this blip that the JETS standout decent player managed to catch the defence playing a fairly high line. He got through on goal with a clean shot that Hendrik saved but with the ball landing back at the striker’s feet, he blasted it home.
Just before the break, they had a confidence they didn’t deserve.
The second half saw a return to the previously mentioned measured passing and good quality build-up play but, as you may have noted that this didn’t include a statement about end product and goals. This is the third game in a row to have gone without a goal from open play and BFC once again had a lot of chances that were not converted. This was a big difference in putting this game to bed. TML OPTA would have had us with an expected goals tally of 3-4 so to come away with just the one was disappointing. The same can be said for the amount of points we have come away with.
The foundations are now there for us to dominate this league but without believing we will win to the point where we can shake off minor discrepancies and without the lack of ruthlessness in-front of the goal we are making it harder for ourselves than it needs to be.
