Pre-Match Preparation & Banter
The day began not with a warm-up, but with a spirited debate over the merits of shared e-docs vs pen and paper for team sheet submissions. Key arguments for the pros were using the available tech, sustainability, no pfaffing around with pen and paper vs the cons of being prepared, printing beforehand, taking responsibility to ensure an efficient process.
Ed – there must be an easy way to use an e-hanko to streamline the process at minimal cost?
Despite the admin banter, and most likely, sticking with the old tech, the team was focused and ready to defend their crown.
⚽ Match 1: BFC Masters 4 – 1 YC&AC Seniors
Scorers: Pete Millar (2), Brian Doyle, James Honda
BFC started strong, dominating possession and knocking on the door early on. The YC&AC keeper made several key saves before Brian broke the deadlock on the rebound off a fine shot. James Honda followed up with a composed finish, and Pete Millar stole the show with a brace.
Pete’s first came from a Teppei rollout to Honda deep on the right wing, with tight pressue from the YC&AC left winger. A skillful first time flick was collected by Pabs, who put the ball just in front of him, Pabs looked up, made eye contact with Pete and then hit a cross field ‘Pirlo=esk’ ball which Pete had to put the after burners on to reach. But reach it he did and under pressure from defender and out-rushing keeper his sublime volley found it’s way to the back of the net – a true team goal.
The second? A moment of Pete magic, who, after a nice touch and reminiscent of Norman Whiteside at Wembley in ’85, curled the ball around the defender and into the top corner. The BFC subs had a perfect view but sadly no camera in hand. YC&AC managed a late consolation. The ball bouncing into the path of the YC&AC forward, that allowed an easy finish past Teppei who had no chance.
