Not quite Ho Ho Ho as Mo Go Go Goes

21 December 2023 News

BFC Masters gathered at YCAC on an unusually balmy December evening, to see out 2023 and bid farewell to Mo ahead of his return to sunny West Coast, USA just before Christmas.

A respectable third place finish was secured with 2 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw representing a reasonable return for the boys in blue. Some decent performances throughout, though with a little more patience and composure BFC could have perhaps gone on to win it – no more than a goal difference in all the games.

With Trent in goal, Steve and Will at the back all providing a solid foundation, BFC’s defence proved a tough nut to crack. Brian sat just in front and pointed a lot and even occasionally moved. Mo, Pabs, Duncan and Selwyn provided the cutting edge to BFC’s play. On another day BFC would have converted more of the chances created but Yuletide finishing remained more naughty than nice.

In latter games, the relatively small squad was hindered a little by injuries to Will and later on to the machine that is Pabs. Despite this, a draw against the eventual winners gave BFC cause for satisfaction.

The wrap up from Sid and Toma saw them reading their list of results, and after checking it twice, somehow a 3rd place finish was secured. So not quite the win, leaving Mo heading back to California dreaming of what could have been. A great guy to play with and we wish him all the best.

Later that evening the BFC gathered at Osaki Footnik for the club’s annual game of ‘spot the 3 wise men’. For the 43rd year running there were no winners, and an extra mouldy onigiri is added to the stocking for next year’s roll over jackpot. The large gathering of the broad BFC family put this disappointment behind them and bade farewell to 2023 in customary style.

So here’s to 2024 and whatever it has in store. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the pitch and at events in the month’s ahead.
