Player Profile

British Football Club

Don Whyte

Occupation: University Teacher
Entry to Japan: Mid-1985
Footballing hero: George Best
Supports: Bury, Arbroath
How became BFC member: When he arrived in Japan, he was given the address of the Rising Sun Bar, run by the late Jerry Haggarty. He inquired about doing sports and was promptly asked “Rugby or football?”. Well deciding that Footy should be the way to go in Japan, Jerry put Don in touch with his old mate Gordon of the BFC – the rest as we say is History.
Most memorable BFC moments: Getting the rebound off a glorious 30-yard piledriver from Fred against U.S. Navy.
Worst BFC moment: Playing golf with Sid

The vision, the 25-yard digger, the big cigars, The Don. We are not worthy.
