BFC Masters kick-off our first game in Footy Japan friendly mini-tournament
It’s been a long time coming but there looks to be great promise with Footy Japan starting up a Master league (over 40s). Testing the waters up in YCAC 5 teams got together to play a mini tournament (each team would play each other twice in 10-minute 7-a-side games over 2 pitches).
A lot of old faces got together from TML years gone by, as well as new ones, and there was a great buzz and atmosphere about the place. Even the ‘BFC fans’ had smiles on their faces despite the cold as they ignored the games and got it a good old chinwag and caught up.
Memorable moments from the evening:
- Taka started things off of the back of a decent BFC move for a tidy finish in the first game… Great to see Taka back playing
- Lynds long throws created havoc in every game and deserved many goals but woeful finishing meant we didn’t capitalise on this threat (Pabs header over the bar from literally under the bar defied physics but it happened)..
- Following one of these long throws, the goal of the day came from Ben… A “bicycle kick after leaping ~4 foot off the ground” to loop in over the keeper (another scissor kick attempt from Ben direct from a Lynds throw deserves a mention which went narrowly wide)
- A goal from Andrew from the side of the halfway line snuck in after Andys dummy header took everyone by surprise
- Gen in goals was commanding and pulled off some amazing saves in a few games, especially the one down to his right in the first game
- Mo was solid at the back and kept things simple which is how the game should be played.
- Train beers back to Tokyo
Congratulations to Footy Japan who won the tournament with 5 wins, a draw and 2 losses and many thanks for organising a top mini-tournament.
