The BFC play rain or shine they say, well that couldn’t have been put more to the test than with this fixture.
The days and days of rain prior to the game didn’t seem to convince the organisers that the pitch would be waterlogged and so both teams turned up to play based on their stupid decision.
The team’s warm up largely consisted of passing around brooms and trying to clear some of the water from the field; a largely pointless exercise given the situation.
As for the football, it’s hard to know what to say. You would kick the ball and it wouldn’t even make a 5 yard pass, any tackles were more likely to come from the water on the pitch than from any players. The random nature of what could happen took any real meaning out of the game.
Actually there were two fairly dry patches on the pitch but the surprise of stumbling into them and watching the ball roll as expected generally took most by surprise and the ball would just go out for a goal kick.
The whole thing was a farce and it’s a shame that we couldn’t face BEFC with standard conditions to really see if they could be matched. As it went though, the opposition got two goals, one either side of the half. The goals were a sloppy mix of dead bounces, water kicking and slips but that was the only choice any team was ever going to have.
This game matched the first two in terms of memorability but largely for the wrong reasons. Anyhow, we end this year’s cup run with two Div 1 scalps under our belts which is not bad going.
