A 69 day league hiatus ended for the BFC with a trip to Amino Vital Field for the first of two fixtures in a row against Jetro FC.
The heat was punishingly hot that day and a kick-off at 1415 meant that BFC would be playing in the thick of it. The pitch was also larger in all directions than most in the league so a true test of fitness was on the cards.
Things started quite evenly but there was a sign of things to come here and there from Jetro. They had fairly strong midfielders that were able to combine with some real whippets on the wings. The size of the pitch worked in their favour in that regard. They fired a few warning shots by using this to get in behind the defence; it let BFC know that this was not going to be simple.
That said, the quality eventually shone through. An Akito and Marco link-up provided the platform for Marco to slot his first away into the top right corner of the net.
More link up plays in the midfield saw the ball made available to Caspar to put one away into the bottom left-hand corner and for Marco to push home another cool finish.
Jetro were sprinting down the lines but BFC’s predominant success was through the middle with some calm counters.
3-0 up, BFC crusin’.
Not for the first time this season however, things were going too smoothly and BFC wanted to throw in a bit of complacency to mix things up a bit.
In fairness to Jetro, they had a tactic and they stuck with it. Eventually their persistence on their right channel forced a clearance error from the BFC that they pounced on to put one away. They were galvanised and followed not long after with a ball across the box from the same side that could’ve been smothered out but it instead trickled through for them to get the score to 3-2.
A bit of squeaky-bum-time followed but BFC regrouped and it was their right channel that provided the goals that allowed for the last stages of the game to be played with a relative calmness.
An interception from Rowan gave him the space to provide the ball to Shun on the right side that saw him then pop it over to Marco on the edge of the box who picked his place on the left-side of the net to complete a hat-trick.
Similarly, an interception from Romen with his head again got the ball to Shun who went direct toward the goal and didn’t stop until he’d put the tie to bed.
After such a long break, you would have expected these halves to have been flipped. The BFC finding their feet in the first before turning the screw in the second however, it doesn’t really matter how it played out in the long-run. Of the final 4 games left in the 2022/23 season, all of which need to be won to get promotion, the first of those wins were on the board.
